Boom! came to me one night was while I listened to some classic rock, something from Pink Floyd, I believe, with my friend and fellow quilt designer Rob Appell. I imagined I could literally see the sound waves as the music came out of his boom box and filled the air. I had this overwhelming urge to capture that feeling in fabric.
The initial sketch for this quilt came rather quickly; the actual techniques necessary to create it came later, as I worked out how to create the look in fabric. Simple straight seams and a little bit of very basic paper foundation piecing accompanied by accurate ¼” seam allowances will help your own sound-wave explosion. And Boom is simple enough to adapt to a table runner or various other project sizes.
Just pick the colors that sing to you and make your own fiber music. Boom!
Finished size is 64" x 68".
